Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin, Texas, has a dynamic opportunity for a full-time board eligible/board certified Pediatric Palliative Care physician to serve as Section Chief for a well-established interdisciplinary pediatric palliative care program (1.5 MDs, RN, social worker, chaplain, PNP). Clinical duties include an inpatient consult service for a growing tertiary-care children’s hospital, as well as outpatient clinic consults, telemedicine visits, and prenatal consults. We provide consultation for pain and symptom management for children with serious medical conditions, as well as assistance with decision-making, medical counseling and advance care planning. Our program is well integrated with a community hospice, and we provide consultative management for our pediatric hospice patients.
This position offers great opportunity for leadership, quality improvement and program development with the continuing expansion of the children’s hospital, including a new CT-surgery program and CVICU, a neurosciences program and plans for a maternal-fetal unit and bone marrow transplant program. We are also affiliated with UT Dell Seton Medical School, with opportunities for affiliate and full faculty appointments. Because our program also participates in supervising the pediatric palliative rotations for pediatric residents, medical students, and adult palliative fellows, there is also curriculum development opportunity.
Qualifications: Candidates must be board certified in pediatrics and BE/BC in Hospice and Palliative Medicine and eligible to secure an unrestricted Texas Medical License. Two or more years of experience in pediatric palliative care and/or another primary clinical discipline is preferred for this leadership position. Experience in education, leadership, program development, quality improvement or research is also desirable.
