The Pennsylvania Bureau of Disability Determination (BDD), a bureau within the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry, is looking to employ physicians with an active Pennsylvania license who are interested in working to serve Pennsylvania and its residents. We request that you consider helping BDD meet the demands of today's Social Security disability claims workload. These positions are responsible for performing professional administrative work reviewing medical evidence for disability claims and participating in disability determinations. They resolve complex medical issues by applying their knowledge in the medical specialty or sub-specialty practiced.
As a Medical Consultant (MC), you will provide expert medical advice about physical function for Social Security disability claims. MCs work in concert with Disability Claims Adjudicators to ensure evidentiary and decision making standards are met and fairly applied to disability claims. The work requires an understanding of the Social Security Administration's disability program. This is an administrative role and requires no patient contact.
BDD provides new employees with orientation and mentoring designed to provide the requisite program knowledge. In addition to the salary, physicians are eligible for quality assurance and specialty board certifications payments annually.
Qualifications: PA residency currently waived for this title. Minimum Experience and Training Requirements - Three years of post-residency experience in the medical specialty or subspecialty practiced. Necessary Special Requirement - All positions require possession of an active unrestricted or active retired license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine or the Pennsylvania State Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
