Job Description Summary
Primary care physician with a specialty in sports medicine for full time, twelve month professional position at the Student Health Service. Physicians provide direct primary patient care, urgent care and health education to the student population at the University of Pennsylvania. Candidate must work cooperatively, collaboratively and efficiently with nurses, mid level practitioners and other primary care physicians. Sports medicine physician is responsible for but not limited to the diagnosis and treatment of athletic and non-athletic related musculoskeletal conditions and concussions. Must be comfortable with casting, splinting and injections.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

Primary care physician with a specialty in sports medicine for full time, twelve month professional position at the Student Health Service. Physicians provide direct primary patient care including management of chronic conditions; urgent care including office based procedures; travel medicine and health education including sexual health counseling to the student population at the University of Pennsylvania.

Sports medicine physician is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of athletic and non-athletic related musculoskeletal conditions and concussions. Must be comfortable with casting, splinting and injections. Sport medicine physicians participate in pre-participation sports physicals and return to play decisions for varsity athletes and should have a strong background in concussion management.

Qualifications:

Candidate must work cooperatively, collaboratively and efficiently with nurses, mid level practitioners and other primary care physicians. In addition to being available for call duties, the physician will be required to maintain a weekly schedule which includes one evenings and an occasional Saturday. MD/DO required from a medical school recognized by the AMA/AOA. Board certification or Board eligible (certification required within the first 3 years of employment) in a primary field of either Internal Medicine or Family Medicine with a certificate for added qualifications in Sports Medicine and must be certified by CAQSM.

Current license to practice in Pennsylvania. Current DEA certification. Must be eligible for appointment in Department of Medicine or Family Practice at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Familiarity with the utilization of electronic health record systems preferred. MD required from a medical school recognized by the AMA. Board certification or Board eligible (certification required within the first 3 years of employment) in a primary field of either Internal Medicine or Family Medicine with a certificate for added qualifications in Sports Medicine.

Budgeted Pay Range:

$190,000 -- $215,000 commensurate with education and experience
