The VA Boston Healthcare System (VABHS) is seeking a board-certified, full-time physiatrist to serve as chief of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS) of this multi-campus institution. VABHS is an academic medical center affiliated with Harvard Medical School (HMS), Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) and Tufts University School of Medicine. A primary faculty appointment at Harvard Medical School will be commensurate with academic qualifications and accomplishments. Secondary appointments at Tufts and BUSM will be provided as required. Unrestricted licensure in any state and US citizenship are required.
PM&RS offers a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation across the continuum of inpatient and outpatient care. Through extensive outpatient clinics and a CARF-accredited 5-bed inpatient unit, PM&RS provides support to patients with neurological disorders, traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and dysfunction, orthopedic disorders, cardiac disease, pulmonary disease, blindness, and complex medical and psychiatric disorders.
The VABHS PM&R program is fully staffed at over 73 full-time and part-time staff, comprising staff physiatrists, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and a residency training program affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine. VABHS hosts more than 3000 trainees annually, and there are opportunities to educate medical students, PA students, residents, and fellows. Expansion of research in PM&R is strongly encouraged.
VABHS is the major tertiary referral center for Veterans from throughout New England. VABHS provides the full spectrum of inpatient, residential, and outpatient medical-surgical and mental health services across three major campuses (Brockton, West Roxbury, & Jamaica Plain), five community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), and several residential rehabilitation facilities. VABHS is the nation’s largest recipient of VA research funds ranks among the top VA facilities in total research funding.
