The role of Medical Director is the centerpiece in the Medicare Hospice Conditions of Participation. He/She is responsible to assist the CEO or COO in the administration of The Washington Home and Community Hospices clinical services program and oversee the medical component of the hospice plan of care for each patient. The Medical Director is responsible for providing clinical leadership and expertise to the hospice IDT, in order to provide the highest level of quality patient medical care and palliation. The Medical Director will facilitate a culture of collaboration among all medical and nursing staff involved with hospice patient care, build relationships with referring physicians to ensure integration of primary and palliative medicine and with community specialists as needed. The Medical Director will identify opportunities to improve care delivery, use resources effectively, and comply with legal, regulatory and clinical policies and procedures, and liaison with the local medical community.
