The Denver Hospice has an immediate opening for a Medical Director. This position will assume responsibility for the medical component of The Denver Hospice’s patient care program. Furnishes physician services and is an active participant in the development of the interdisciplinary team (IDT) plan of care. Provide consultation and education to The Denver Hospice staff, volunteers, and community physicians. Serve as liaison for The Denver Hospice to referring physicians, community hospitals, medical trainees, and other community groups. Responsible for providing overall leadership at The Denver Hospice.
Thorough knowledge of hospice philosophy
Thorough knowledge advanced pain/symptom control measures
Knowledge of IDT process
Knowledge of hospice & long-term care regulations
Knowledge of basic ethical principles
Knowledge of shared decision making
Ability to practice/teach advanced pain/symptom control measures
Willingness to accept Medicare reimbursement
Ability to provide leadership and motivation
Understanding and ability to demonstrate the organizational values of The Denver Hospice e.g. respect, safety, choice, compassion and efficiency
Ability to develop/maintain constructive working relationships with The Denver Hospice staff, volunteers, attending physicians and community agencies
Ability to make community presentations
Graduate from approved school of medicine
Board-certified Internal Medicine or Family Practice
Current license to practice medicine in the state of Colorado
Current DEA number
Admission privileges at hospitals as designated by The Denver Hospice
3 years successful medical practice
Board-certified or qualified in hospice/palliative medicine
5 + years experience in Hospice/Palliative Care
Completion of Palliative Care Fellowship
Experience with medical informatics
Experience with medical and business ethics activities
