About Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility - Navajo Area Indian Health Service
Chinle Service Unit includes the hospital and ambulatory care center in Chinle, and two health centers– one in Pinon and the other in Tsaile. We provide medical care for approximately 35,000 Navajo. Serving a rural area, many of our patients travel 100 miles round trip to receive care and do not have electricity or running water in their homes. And, most of our elderly patients speak only Nava...jo, and live according to traditional Navajo cultural practices.
The Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility and Ambulatory Care Center is a 60 bed inpatient hospital and outpatient facility. Services offered are: Adult inpatient and Pediatric Inpatient Care, Outpatient Primary Care, Adult Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Podiatry, OBGYN, Labor & Delivery, Women’s Health, Midwifery, Mental Health, Pharmacy, Optometry, Dietary-Nutrition, Dental, PT, OT, Speech Pathology, Audiology, Lab, Public Health and School Health.
We serve members of the Navajo Nation deep in the reservation, where many aspects of traditional Navajo culture thrive. Challenges unique to our practice include respecting traditional beliefs, our very remote location, and a degree of poverty uncommon in the United States. We are often a good fit for people interested in global health or care of indigent populations.
In our small town, we enjoy having no rush hour traffic, no long commutes, and no stressors of urban life. We walk to work and enjoy living in our close, collegial community. Chinle is a wonderful launching pad from which to explore the beautiful Southwest (several national parks, skiing, hiking, mountain biking, backpacking, etc). Pay is competitive, and there are also loan repayment opportunities. You must be a USA citizen for Federal employment.
We live in one of the most scenic areas of the country, and offer almost unlimited opportunities for outdoor recreational activities. We’re within half a days’ drive of more than a dozen national parks and monuments, including the Grand Canyon, Arches, Bryce, and Zion National Parks. Beautiful Canyon de Chelly is in our “backyard.”
